What I Learned This Week - 4/19/13

1.  I will never learn the entire lyrics to REM’s song, “It’s the end of the world as we know it”. After 20 years I’ve only been able to commit the following to memory:  “That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, and aeroplanes….something something something…… feeling pretty psyched. {chorus}… something something something… Step down, step down…..something…Cap’n Crunch…..something... Uh-oh, this means no beer…Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives and I decline. . {chorus}… something something something…Leonard Bernstein!!.… something something something… Right. {chorus}.”
2. The official lyrics to the previous song do not contain the phrase “Cap’n Crunch”…or "no beer". So I know less now.
3. The random conversations of my kid's friends around our dinner table typically has me giggling for days. Where else do you hear things like,  " I once made a man out of peanuts...well ok,  A peanut. You had to use your imagination."?
4. If I ever wrote a movie script or was a bad guy in a movie, I would make the bomb detonate at 0:03 seconds.
5. I am unsuccessfully teaching my kids that all ancient Greek sculptures are actually victims of Medusa.
6. People ask me about why I like certain things – fishing, sports, etc…it’s best summed up by this 90yr woman’s reaction to using virtual reality for the first time, “it’s just wonderful” 
7. You can’t escape mothers….even when training with elite triathletes there is someone who has to be your mother.
8. A commute in a snowstorm is a lot more fun if you imagine the snow as confetti and you are the star attraction in a parade. People in the car next to you will not give you a second glance if you do the “prom queen wave” to them.
9. The Android operating system was originally developed to be an operating system for digital cameras.
10. I don't understand why my wife doesn't understand she will never get guy jokes because she's not a guy.
