What I Learned This Week - 3/11/16

  1.  543 days until Star Wars - Episode VIII is in theaters. 
  2. My dogs know the difference in sound between their box of treats and a box of cereal. I do not.
  3. There is a device that that turns sticks of butter into butter spray. I’m not sure why I think I need this. #Biem
  4. The famous hot dog company, Oscar Mayer, was actually “Edelweiss” for 13 years before changing their name.
  5.  My cell phone always autocorrects the word “yay” to “tasty” and I can’t make it stop.
  6. “Yay”, “yea” and “yeah” have different meanings and pronunciations and can lead to easy bar bets. 
  7. Posting to social media a photo of ALL the clothes you are about to wear for an event is known as a “nude selfie”.
  8. The Baader-Meinhof phenomenon is the phenomenon in which people who just learn or notice something start seeing it everywhere.
  9. The sport, “finger boarding” – riding a mini skateboard with ones fingers and doing pro level tricks – is a thing.
  10. According to my watch, I’ve texted 14 miles this week.
  11. Researchers from the Dutch Wageningen University and Research Center have successfully cultivated 10 food crops in soil that “simulates” what astronauts would encounter both on the Moon and on Mars.
  12. I still don’t understand the need for daylight savings time.
  13. Asperger syndrome is named for Austrian pediatrician Hans Asperger, who described it in 1944. He called his patients "Little Professors."
