What I Learned This Week - 11/21/14

  1.  392 days until Star Wars the Force Awakens (aka: Episode VII) is in theaters.
  2. " #Rokerthon" was totally NOT worth it. I expected it to end in grand finale fashion with a major weather event….like a hurricane hailing ninja octopi and man-o-war jellyfish with laser beams on their friggin’ heads.
  3. There is a Twitter account for "Captain Obvious" which makes my statement to my kids of, "you must follow Captain Obvious on Twitter" that much funnier....to me anyway.
  4. Amazon.com has a coupon page.
  5. The word "mortgage" comes from a French word that means "pledge to the death."
  6. If you ever want to fully understand how dirty something is, take a photo of it.
  7. Oreo Churros are a thing.
  8. Ramen Doughnuts, "Ramnuts", are another thing.
  9. Best T-shirt in the airport this week read, “What if Stacey’s Mom was actually Jessie’s Girl and her number was 867-5309?”
  10. According to my middle daughter, if you can’t dance just spell your name in the air with your butt.
  11. According to the same middle daughter, number 11 doesn’t apply to me because the way I spell my name is “disgusting”.
  12. According to several friends, this list helps keeps them regular.
  13. According to other friends, they are currently rolling their eyes as their wife reads them this list aloud…again.
  14. When starting a sentence with “according” I always immediately type “to the prophecy” and then delete it.
  15. It's always the least likely person at the party that I will sit and reminisce about the Star Wars toys of our youth.
  16. Goldfish shaped teabags are genius.
  17. Bad guys beware - women are now instructors at the local police academy and will teach "aggression tactics" one week a month.
  18. Jake Lloyd, the actor that played the boy version of Anakin Skywalker in “Star Wars Episode 1 – the Phantom Menace”, is 25 years old. Yes. Way.
  19. My youngest daughter thinks it is hilarious to knock on her older sisters' doors and ask, "do you want to build a snowman?"  So do I.
  20. The word in Japanese for my oldest’ s favorite star cluster in the Pleiades (the 7 sisters) is “Subaru” -  hence the stars on the car manufacturer’s logo.
  21. There will be a sequel to the “Spongebob Squarepants” movie….coming to 3-D theaters near you in February. Fred the fish’s line of “OH, MY EYES!!” comes to mind.
  22. High-heel-hi-top-sneakers are a thing.
  23. I have no idea what happens to you if you were late to the first “Fight Club” and missed the rules. Tweeting, “This fight club is pretty awesome” is probably a bad idea.
  24. Kids and friends that reserve the “shotgun” seat when entering my vehicle by yelling “Chewie!!” make me laugh and warm my heart.
  25. You can now purchase a candle of “Agent Toht” from “Raiders of the Lost Ark” - so you can morbidly enjoy the face melting scene in horribly slow fashion.
  26. Japan has successfully conducted tests of its new maglev train, reaching a speed of 311 mph. This is 111 mph faster than the current bullet trains.
  27. There are way more undersea internet cables than you think (http://submarine-cable-map-2014.telegeography.com/)..and yes, sharks are trying to eat the internet.
