What I Learned This Week - 2/20/15

  1.  300 days until "Star Wars - the Force Awakens" (aka: Episode VII) is in theaters.
  2. It cost India 23 million dollars less to go to mars than it took to make the movie, "Gravity".
  3. Few understand "He-Man" references when stating "50 shades of Greyskull was a better movie".
  4. Amazon studios will be remaking "Sigmund and the Sea Monsters" - as long as the Ooze family remains in cheesy costume and is not CG rendered it will be groovy and awesome.
  5. Two percent of all internet searches are for song lyrics.
  6. Using a power meter is like getting a tattoo.
  7. The human eye can only distinguish 20 shades of grey.
  8. In the making of the movie “Interstellar”, the coding of CG rendering to generate the visual of what a spinning black hole would look like turned out to be an actual scientific discovery.
  9. "Mechanical rodeo great white shark" is a thing.
  10. The "Doomsday Clock" has been set to 3 minutes before midnight which is the furthest level since 1984. The only time it was moved closer was when the Soviet Union began work on a hydrogen bomb in 1953.
  11. According to my youngest there is a fine line between, “I was thinking” and “I was stinking”…only your nose can tell the difference.
  12. One of my daughter’s friend’s accomplishments is that everyone in her house knows her name.
  13. ISIS sends out 90,000 tweets per day – yes, over 1 tweet/second.
  14. In 1949, “adhesive bras” were a thing.
  15. There is now an Ant+ compatible cycling helmet that doubles as a heartrate monitor.
  16. According to my oldest, “Tay Tay is the BAE” – which is teenager-speak for, “I really don’t want to discuss my music interests with you”
  17. Apparently the latest hipster trend is to read actual hard copy books.
  18. The only guilt greater than eating one sleeve of Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies in one sitting is eating two sleeves of the cookies in one sitting.
  19. Lego has overtaken Ferrari as the world's most powerful brand......whatever that means.
