What I Learned This Week - 5/1/15

  1.  230 days until "Star Wars - the Force Awakens" (aka: Episode VII) is in theaters.
  2. 51 Days until the team start of RAAM.
  3. Some Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavors are only found in certain stores - Nutty Caramel Swirl, which she developed to taste like a Snickers bar, is only available at 7-Eleven. Berry Voluntary, was made for Target. Walgreens sells a Truffle Trifecta, and Walmart hawks Cotton Candy. #OffToWalgreens
  4. Never start a street fight with a monkey.
  5. The highest-paid female CEO in the U.S. was born as a man.
  6. According to my middle child, she doesn’t need to wake up today because she did that yesterday.
  7. My oldest will argue for a solid half hour that lamb meat in a gyro is basically roast beef.
  8. Nope, I still don’t understand the emotional ticks of teenage girls.
  9. My daughter has several contacts on her phone labeled as “Free Food#x”.
  10. There are now eye drops containing Ce6 that can give you night vision.
  11. The running boat/butt joke in the movie, “Finding Nemo” doesn’t translate well (or at all) to other languages.
  12. My irrational fear of “whales falling form the sky” is realized in a video game.
  13. I’m not for vandalism, but the guys that spray paint male genitalia on pot holes to get them repaired faster should be crowd-funded. 
  14. The official US Navy designation for things falling off aircrafts is “TFOA: Things Falling Off Aircraft”.
  15. Jerrie Mock was the first woman to fly a plane solo around the world--she disliked the spotlight so much, hardly anyone knew about it.
  16. The world record for solving a Rubix cube is now 5.25 seconds. Yes, seconds. Watch here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gz8sYIN78kM). He actually solves it in ~4.8 seconds, but it takes half a second to hit the timing matte.
  17. A Starbucks cup appears in every scene of the movie, "Fight Club".

  20. According to my youngest, everything is a boomerang if you throw it up.
  21. There are DIY instructions for making a mini-bike powered by a cordless drill – one that can reaches speeds up to 35mph.
  22. “Hoof boots” are an actual thing.
  23. Pringles are not potato chips – they are potato “crisps” –as the can states. Chips are made from fresh spuds, while crisps are made from various forms of dried potatoes.
  24. “Graffiti Drones” are a thing.
  25. If you watch South Park with closed captioning enabled you can read everything that Kenny says. #WishIHadKnownThisSooner
  26. A French inventor, Christian Poincheval, has invented a line of scented pills designed to make your gaseous emissions smell like violets, roses, ginger and even chocolate. Yes, it works on dogs too.
  27. "A tooth implant that functions as a bottle opener" is a thing.
  28. According to my middle child, one day she fainted and the phrase, "drop dead gorgeous" was invented.
  29. According to my youngest, the perforated line on graham crackers that represents where the cracker is supposed to break – lies.
  30. I can’t go a day without googling “something”. I cannot remember how to find answers to things without it.
  31. "Phobophobia" is the fear of having a phobia.
